Andaz Savannah Review: Where to Stay in Savannah's Historic District

If our Savannah guide convinced you to go, the next question is where to stay. On one of our trips we based ourselves at the Andaz Savannah, a Hyatt property tucked right into the historic district, and it turned out to be a near-perfect home base for the city.

It is the kind of hotel that blends modern, design-forward style with real Southern charm, and it puts you within walking distance of basically everything. Here is our honest review, including a full room tour and the part most people forget to ask about: what the resort fee actually gets you.

Is the Andaz Savannah worth it? Our honest take

Yes, especially if location and style matter to you. The Andaz sits right on Ellis Square in the heart of the historic district, so you can walk to River Street, the squares, restaurants, and nightlife in minutes. The rooms are modern and comfortable, the rooftop and restaurant are genuinely good, and the whole vibe is upscale without feeling stuffy. For a Savannah weekend, it is an easy recommendation.

Location: right in the heart of the historic district

The single best thing about the Andaz is where it stands. It is beside Ellis Square, smack in the middle of Savannah's historic district, which means the cobblestone streets, the oak-lined squares, the boutiques, and the nightlife are all an easy stroll away. You can reach just about anywhere you want to go quickly and on foot, which is exactly how you want to experience Savannah. Park once, walk everywhere.

The room tour (the Andaz Loft)

We stayed in one of the Andaz Loft rooms, and the layout won us over. Right inside the door there is high-top bar seating and a sofa with an ottoman, so you have a real spot to relax that is separate from the bed. The TV is mounted on a swivel, a small thing that turns out to be great, since you can angle it toward the couch or the bed.

A few details that stood out:

A Juliet balcony. The door actually opens, and from it we had a view of the First African Baptist Church, a bridge, and even a peek of the river.

Thoughtful art. The bedroom has an accent wall with artwork, which feels right in a city that is home to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

A king bed with down pillows, plus nightstands on both sides that each have two standard outlets and two USB plugs. Easy to stay charged.

Storage that works. A credenza with a basket and a mirror, so if you like to unpack and settle in, you have the space for it.

A solid bathroom. A sink with a nice backlit mirror, and a deep walk-in shower stocked with argan oil body wash.

It is a room designed for actually staying in, not just sleeping in, which we appreciated after long days out walking the city.

Food and drink: 22 Square and a great happy hour

The Andaz leans into Savannah's food scene with its on-site restaurant, 22 Square, a farm-to-table spot built around fresh, local, seasonal ingredients and house-crafted cocktails. You can go from a hearty Southern breakfast to a gourmet dinner without leaving the building.

For us, the highlight was happy hour. We grabbed a happy hour bite (which was genuinely good), had a few drinks, and spent the time chatting with the bartender and other guests. That easy, social, local feel is exactly what the Andaz brand is going for, and it landed. If you are staying here, do not skip it.

Amenities: rooftop, fitness, and spa

The Andaz knows how to pamper. The rooftop is the showpiece, with a terrace and garden for cocktails and panoramic views of the Savannah skyline, plus an outdoor rooftop pool with a fire pit if you want to lounge. If you like to keep moving on vacation, there is a state-of-the-art fitness center, and for full wind-down mode, the spa offers a range of treatments. Whether you want to stay active or do absolutely nothing, it is covered.

The resort fee (and what it actually includes)

Here is the part worth knowing before you book. The Andaz charges an added resort fee, and during our stay it came with some genuinely useful extras, starting with a stocked mini fridge.

What was complimentary in our room:

  • Water and a few sodas

  • A couple of beers and a seltzer in the mini fridge

  • Two bags of chips and a granola bar

  • Coffee and tea, with creamer and sugar

  • What was not included (there was a price sheet):

  • The wine and spirits

  • The gourmet nuts

So the resort fee is not just a line item, it does buy you some real perks. Fees and inclusions change over time, so confirm the current details when you book, but we found it a fair trade for what we got.

Who it's for?

The Andaz Savannah is a great fit if you want a stylish, modern hotel in the perfect location, and you value being able to walk everywhere. Couples will love the rooftop and the happy hour scene, and it works for families who want a comfortable, central base for exploring. If you would rather have a quiet, secluded retreat far from the action, this downtown location runs lively, but for most Savannah trips, being in the middle of it is the whole point.
